Together for the environment: Sharp supports the Day of Biodiversity at 26 sites around the world

More than one-third of 50,000 animal and plant species are close to extinction. This devastating fact prompted the United Nations to declare 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. Technology company Sharp is also making its own contribution to environmental protection and is supporting the UN with major national campaigns including tree planting, events to clean up rivers and landscapes, and environmental teaching.

“If a lot of small people in a lot of small places do a lot of small things, they can change the face of the world.” As an Environmentally Advanced Company Sharp has long since internalised this motto. For instance, environmental projects such as tree plantings and environmental teaching have been carried out ongoingly by Sharp and its staff for many years.  Sharp is also supporting the activities of the United Nations. In the period around 22 May 2010, the International Day of Biodiversity, 26 Sharp subsidiaries across the world will be making their own contribution to maintaining biodiversity by planting trees, cleaning up woods and meadows or carrying out environmental teaching in regional schools. Sharp’s business operations are also shaped by the company‘s environmental awareness. Energy-saving products, such as the current AQUOS LCD TVs with Quattron technology, or the energy-generating thin-film solar cells from the green factory in Sakai are proof of Sharp’s daily commitment to the environment.

By taking part in the Day of Biodiversity Sharp is demonstrating its support for the UN’s activities and motivating its own staff to give consideration to environmental issues in their day-to-day work.
